FINCH NESTS and GREEN FINGERNAILS

Finches seem to like soft lining materials for their nests and have been snatching dog hair combings and shredded quilt batting from this spruce branch.  I’m always tempted to use clothes dryer lint, cotton balls, etc., but shudder to think how miserable that would be for the chicklings after a rain.  Cotton takes so long to dry and then is no longer fluffy.  So if you help the birds this way, please don’t use anything cotton.

Oh, by the way, have you noticed the popular fingernail color on the spruces lately?

Borrowed idea from Dick Duerksen on Facebook.
