Wednesday, June 22, 2011 9:55 AM I was interested, but not surprised, to learn that the fledglings do return to the nest occasionally, at least at first. I suspect the allure of the “gourmet snacks” the parents are still bringing to the nest is too much to resist … especially for a newcomer at the art of finding food. I wonder if fledglings in coastal areas, like White Rock, are less inclined to return due to the abundance of “wonderful stuff” that is always available along the shoreline.
Lots of serious flapping and hopping about at the moment, both at Decorah and at White Rock. I’ve spotted just two at Decorah today, but they’re very active – seem to be fighting over one of those “gourmet snacks”…
Wednesday, June 22, 2011 10:02 AM This is quite a show this morning. There are THREE eaglets at the nest now, two out on the branch and one in the nest, playing with a stick like a dog! If you aren’t watching, you’re missing some amazing entertainment.
Wednesday, June 22, 2011 10:07 AM The eaglet that was playing with the stick just flew to the end of the branch and then launched from there. A few seconds later I saw him soar past the barn in the background and now he just returned to the branch.
I didn’t know that eaglets drank coffee, but he sure seems to be pumped up on caffeine. His two nest-mates are just sitting on the branch watching the show
And now he’s gone again.
